In the village of Gavaldon, every four years two girls vanish—only to reappear as characters in fairytales, shaped by the mysterious School for Good and Evil. Sophie has always imagined herself destined for virtue and heroism, while her dark-spirited friend Agatha seemed certain for villainy. When both are taken, they discover that fate has other plans, and their expected paths lead them nowhere they anticipated.
